When you witness the inexplicable beauty of the Great Barrier Reef, you would not be surprised to know that it’s listed as a World Heritage Site and often described as one of the seven natural wonders of the world. Located in the Coral Sea, off the coast of Queensland, Australia, the Great Barrier Reef is the largest coral reef system in the world that covers a mammoth area of 348, 000 km² of which 344, 400 km² comes within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. It is around 2,300 km long and stretches from the so called southern gateway to the Reef, Bundaberg, to Cape York which is known as its northern tip.
The Great Barrier Reef attracts millions of tourists every year who come here to experience its diversified marine life which consists of 600 different kinds of soft & hard corals, in excess of 100 varieties of jellyfish, more than 1,600 fish varieties, over 130 types of sharks & rays, and not to forget, 30 enchanting species of whales and dolphins. Our fishing charters, departing from Mackay (though, we can operate from other ports along the Queensland coast, if required), are a treat for anglers who can enjoy the sunshine & breathtaking scenery while catching various famous fish varieties.
The depth varies at different parts of the Great barrier Reef (from about 30 meters to more than 2,000 meters) which provides ample opportunities for both snorkelling and diving enthusiasts to admire its captivating underwater life. Our fishing charters and diving & snorkelling charters (departing from Mackay, Cairns, Airlie Beach, etc.) will take you to the many famous places within the Great Barrier Reef region for that unforgettable tropical experience. The clear near-pristine waters and temperatures of 25-28°C here are excellent for snorkelling and for sighting different types of corals and fish.
